February Reflection - The Franciscan Calendar 2026
It is easy to meet a hardened heart with our own trepidations. However, I have learnt that the most defensive hearts need the most patience. To humble oneself and take the first step in moments of confrontation is not the easiest, but when we remember that love conquers all, we can pivot towards understanding the other over pandering to our own ego.
St Francis encountered the wolf of Gubbio which had killed livestock and even a few people. From a peaceful heart, St Francis listened to the wolf’s needs and empathised. A connection of hearts ensued and in turn, the wolf connected with the people of Gubbio, walking freely among them in town.
Musing: How can I believe that I have it within me to meet threatening persons and situations with a peaceful heart?
